plant.metal

is a collection of hand crafted welded steel sculptural plant holders that incorporate up-cycled materials such as scrap metal and repurposed materials. Every plant holder is unique in its own design as it incorporates the materials that are readily available to construct its own individual shape and design, no two are a like. Commissions and custom orders are available upon request although they may require new materials to create specific designs however will they still incorporate the integration of reclaimed metal to promote more sustainable practices.

My practice involves the conscious awareness of converting waste materials into aesthetic objects intended for art and function. There is an environmental imperative behind my work which also influences the creative and construction process.  I have been collecting and repurposing scrap metal for several years now from junkyards to dumpster bins. I am fascinated with the process of creating something new out of something old - a new life. Sculpture is my life and I thoroughly enjoy every step of the process from finding the initial pieces to the end product. I hope that people can appreciate and do their part in making conscious purchases in the process of obtaining new items in their living spaces that are good for the environment.

There are many commonalities that humans and the natural world share and I hope that these plant holders can bridge the gap between conscious consumption and taking care of our earth.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

As one of the youngest female Canadian sculptors working with welded public art, Sinéad Ludwig-Burgess continues to create surreal artworks that question the viewers’ notion on space and the human body. Her studio practice is driven by the experimentation and bending of steel. The majority of Ludwig-Burgess’ art in her portfolio incorporates the use of scrap metal and recycled materials where she enjoys the process of repurposing these items to make environmentally conscious sculptures.
